What's the competition all about?
Become a smarter, more informed consumer
We all have to make decisions about how we spend our money—and what we buy—almost every day of our lives.
The Office of Fair Trading runs the Buy Smart Competition to help you learn about marketplace issues and your rights to become more informed consumers.
By becoming an informed consumer, you will have the skills and knowledge to:
- recognise and avoid scams
- improve your financial capability
- use your consumer rights when you need them.
The Buy Smart Competition is a way to get you thinking about these issues in a fun, creative way.
You also have the chance to win a share of over $15,000!
What you need to do
The Buy Smart Competition asks you to make a creative project, which could be just about anything you can imagine! We like to leave this up to you as much as possible.
Some of the awesome projects we’ve seen in the past include board games, music videos, interactive quizzes, apps and much more.
Start thinking about topic ideas.
Your project will need to do these things:
- identify an important issue related to shopping or money
- explain the issue to a target audience of your choice
- give your audience some hints and tips that can help them with this issue.
